Mayor Larry O'Brien declares Scoliosis Awareness Day in the City of Ottawa
WHEREAS, the first Wednesday in November
Is recognized as Scoliosis Awareness Day in the City of Ottawa; and
WHEREAS, Scoliosis Awareness Day is a time to acknowledge the youths afflicted with spinal deformities and to promote early detection programs; and
WHEREAS, our citizens should be encouraged to learn about scoliosis and
Endorse the research and skill of local medical staff and the perseverance of patients; and
WHEREAS, in 2007, the residents of Ottawa will appreciate that many new patients will be diagnosed with scoliosis and 90% of them will be adolescent females. A better understanding of the community working to support patients and medical staff will be attained through advocacy initiatives such as screening vulnerable age groups;
THEREFORE, I, Larry O’Brien, Mayor of the City of Ottawa, do hereby proclaim
Wednesday, November 7, 2007 as Scoliosis Awareness Day in the City of Ottawa, and call upon all citizens to be aware of the disease and vigilant in its progression and severity through early detection.
